We work closely with Weathericks Holiday Cottages, so if you’d like to combine your visit to our hide with a short break on the edge of the Peak District, we highly recommend these cottages - they’re beautiful, luxurious and in a fabulous location with wildlife on the doorstep. For one-night options, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to make recommendations.

It takes approximately 5 minutes to walk to the hide. The route crosses fields that are grazed by livestock, so while it’s fairly easy walking, the surface may be uneven or muddy in places and for this reason, we ask that you wear suitable footwear. The route is downhill on the way there and uphill on the way back - don’t worry though, it’s not too strenuous and we walk at a steady pace.

We’ve done our best to make the hide as comfortable as possible. There are cushions to soften things up and a few added extras to make your stay a little more pleasant. Make no mistake though, this is a hide with no electricity, no heating, no WiFi and no toilet facilities and that’s the way we like it - with so many woodland birds to keep you company, you’ll have everything you need to take fabulous photographs.

As we all know, there are never any guarantees with wildlife, so it would be wrong of us to promise certain species or number and frequency of visiting birds. What we can say with confidence is that the woodland bird hide is a long-established hide that is visited regularly by a variety of birds. Jays are known to nest nearby and usually appear several times daily, along with the regular tits, finches and nuthatches that can’t resist our food. Woodpeckers and sparrowhawks often make an appearance too, but are less reliable. In the unlikely event we notice reduced activity at the hide’s feeders, you will be informed of this before your session. You will then be given the opportunity to cancel or change your booking at no additional cost. Of course, you can uphold your booking too - wildlife can always surprise us.

Yes. We always have a plentiful supply of bird food and the visiting birds are always hungry. You are welcome to replenish the feeders as often as you like and we’ll show you where best to position the food to get the best results. Please be aware that you may have to wait a short while for the birds to come back after you have returned to the hide.

In general, no. The hide has been set-up with photography in mind and the perches have been carefully situated to take advantage of the light and background. There should be no need to change the layout of the perches, but any possibilities for changing perches will be shown to you on arrival.

Absolutely! The hides are great for anyone wishing to observe woodland birds and their liveliness, so non-photographers are very welcome. The standard rental rate for two people will apply.

A full session runs from dawn until dusk, giving you the opportunity to take advantage of the best light. You can leave the hide at any time, but to avoid disturbing our other hides, you must only return to your car with Peak Nature as an escort. Please telephone in advance and we will be happy to collect you.

No. Sorry, but to prevent disruption to other users of our hides, we do not allow movement between hides.
