All changes and cancellations must be made in line with our terms and conditions, regardless of the weather forecast - please read these for information if you’re not sure. In the event of extreme weather where a weather warning is issued, we may have to postpone your booking to ensure your safety. If this happens, we’ll get in touch and do our best to reschedule your booking for a mutually convenient time. Please take this into consideration when making arrangements for travel or accommodation.

We work closely with Weathericks Holiday Cottages, so if you’d like to combine your visit to our hide with a short break on the edge of the Peak District, we highly recommend these cottages - they’re beautiful, luxurious and in a fabulous location with wildlife on the doorstep. For one-night options, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to make recommendations.

It takes approximately 5 minutes to walk to the hide. The route crosses fields that are grazed by livestock, so while it’s fairly easy walking, the surface may be uneven in places and for this reason, we ask that you wear suitable footwear. The route is downhill on the way there and uphill on the way back - don’t worry though, it’s not too strenuous and we walk at a steady pace.

We’ve done our best to make the hide as comfortable as possible. There are cushions to soften things up and a few added extras to make your stay a little more pleasant. Make no mistake though, this is a hide with no electricity, no heating, no WiFi and no toilet facilities and that’s the way we like it - it’s our buzzard haven in a great location with all of the things you need to take fabulous photographs of wild buzzards.

As we all know, there are never any guarantees with wildlife, so it would be wrong of us to create promises and percentages. What we can say with confidence is that the buzzards visiting our hide have been doing so regularly for a number of years and we have gotten to know them very well. We only accept bookings when we believe there’s an excellent chance of a successful visit. We personally monitor the buzzards’ behaviour daily and the hide is routinely monitored by trail cam. If we observe anything in the buzzard’s behaviour to suggest they may not show, you will be informed of this beforehand. You will then be given the opportunity to cancel or change your booking at no additional cost. Of course, you can uphold your booking too - wildlife can always surprise us.

While we hope this won’t happen, the buzzards are sensitive birds. No-shows are a frustrating and unpredictable, but natural consequence of working with wild animals and it is assumed that anyone undertaking a session in the hide understands this. Once a booking is underway, we do not offer refunds or free visits for no-shows. If you are patient, quiet, respectful and listen to our advice, there is an excellent chance of a successful visit.

This varies greatly depending on the individual bird and conditions on the day. The more confident (and hungry) buzzards are often happy to feed for extended periods of over an hour or more. Others prefer to visit fleetingly throughout the day. You may be lucky enough to experience two buzzards feeding together, or one bird having its fill and leaving soon after. Even when not feeding, the buzzards tend to remain close, keeping a watchful eye on the site. Naturally, the longer you’re prepared to stay, the more likely you are to capture photographs. We will be contactable throughout your session to offer advice.

No. The welfare of the buzzards is our priority, so we only provide bait that we have sourced ourselves.

Absolutely! The hides are great for anyone wishing to observe buzzards up close, so non-photographers are very welcome. The standard rental rate for two people will apply.

To ensure the buzzards retain trust in our hide, we advise entering and leaving the hide when it’s dark. A full session therefore runs from dawn until dusk. You can leave the hide at any time, but to avoid being seen by the wildlife and damaging our hard work, you must only leave the hide with an escort. If you need to leave the hide for any reason, please telephone in advance and we will be happy to collect you.

We can sometimes escort you to the hide in daylight hours, but if buzzards are in the vicinity, this can impact your chances of success and risks damaging the trust the buzzards have in our site. Please get in touch to discuss this further if you are unable to enter the hide early in the morning.

No. Sorry, but to prevent disruption to other users of our hides, we do not allow movement between hides.
